The Santa Maria Police Department is seeking information on an alleged hit-and-run collision that sent an elderly man to the hospital Saturday night and resulted in the arrest of a Santa Maria woman.

Police were called to the area of Broadway and Williams Street at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday for reports of a hit-and-run crash that reportedly left the male victim on the roadway, according to Sgt. Duane Schneider. 

Police later identified the driver as Maria Augustina Abolino Lopez, 42, of Santa Maria, and charged her with felony hit-and-run. She was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

The elderly man was riding his bicycle eastbound on Williams Street when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle moving southbound on Broadway. He was sent to an area hospital, although the extent of his injuries is unknown. 

After the crash, Lopez allegedly left the area, according to Schneider. 

Witnesses helped officers identify the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood, but police said the driver fled on foot.

At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the Santa Maria Police Department reportedly received information that the driver of the vehicle had returned home. Police officials subsequently arrested Lopez for her role in the alleged hit-and-run.

Maria Augustina Abolino Lopez was initially identified by an alternate name by the Santa Maria Police Department. Her name has since been corrected to reflect the change.
