Santa Maria Police and the California Highway Patrol are investigating a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday in which the driver reportedly sustained major injuries.

At about 5:10 p.m., Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria City fire departments, along with AMR ambulance personnel, were dispatched to the area of Black and Mahoney roads in Santa Maria for a report of a vehicle crash.

“When units arrived, they found a single vehicle that had rolled over on its roof,” said Capt. Dave Zaniboni, County Fire spokesman.

The unidentified female driver, estimated to be in her 30s, was discovered inside the overturned vehicle.

“She required major extrication to get her out of that vehicle,” Zaniboni added.

Once out, she was flown by a CALSTAR helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
