Exhibit of student artwork set to open at Betteravia Gallery
An exhibition of art created by Santa Barbara County students during the school day will be on display beginning Wednesday at the Betteravia Gallery in the Joseph Centeno Betteravia Government Administration Building in Santa Maria.
Artists from the Santa Maria-Bonita, Orcutt Union, Blochman and Santa Maria Joint Union High school districts will be represented.
A free opening reception, featuring dance performances by students from El Camino Junior High and Orcutt Union School District, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the gallery, located at 511 E. Lakeside Parkway.
Sponsored by the County Alliance for Arts Education, County Office of Arts and Culture and County Arts Commission, "Come Together: An Exhibition of Student Artwork Created in Santa Barbara Schools" celebrates dedication to the arts by county teachers and students.
Free community crisis preparation workshop planned at library
A free community workshop on crisis preparation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday in Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library. The guest speaker will be Roy Dugger, city emergency services specialist.
The program is being offered in conjunction with the collection of new crisis-related books and materials available at the library, funded by a grant from the California State Library.
Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to arrive early.

Blood drive to be held at Elks Lodge
The United Blood Services of the Central Coast will hold a blood drive from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave.
Donors must feel well, have eaten prior to donation, weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old and have photo identification.
