A man is dead and another is in the hospital this morning after a crash between a pickup truck and a farm tractor on East Stowell Road and Philbrick Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 6:40 a.m., the unidentified driver of a Chevy pickup failed to slow down for a slow-moving tractor, and was killed in a fire after the collision, said CHP Officer Julio Rubio.
The unidentified driver of the tractor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the seat. Coworkers pulled the tractor driver away from burning tractor, Rubio said. The tractor driver was taken to Marian Medical Center with major injuries.
Both vehicles ended up in a drainage ditch.
Santa Barbara County and city firefighters were at the scene. The road at Stowell and Philbrick roads is closed.
