A pre-Halloween celebration Saturday night in Isla Vista attracted nearly 30,000 revelers to the university town, sheriff?s Sgt. Erik Raney said Sunday.
Friday?s celebrations drew approximately 20,000 people, he said.
Sheriff?s deputies issued nearly 125 citations Saturday night, with the majority of those for alcohol-related offenses, including minors in possession of alcohol and those with open containers of alcohol, Raney said.
In addition, 129 people were arrested, mostly on charges related to alcohol use, including being drunk in public, fighting in public and other minor offenses having to do with alcohol use, Raney said.
Despite the number of citations and arrests, the law enforcement operation Saturday night progressed smoothly, and the crowds were calm, he said.
Raney noted that sheriff?s officials expected the streets of Isla Vista to be quieter Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but anticipate more crowds on Wednesday night, Halloween night.
