Walter (Walt) A. Rosebrock

Walter (Walt) A. Rosebrock was born March 29,1923 in St. Louis, Mo. and passed away December 14, 2013 in Santa Maria, Ca.

Walt served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 in Aviation Squadron VR-E1 and V6. He then studied at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating in 1950.

He began his newspaper career with the Downey Champion in Southern California in 1951. He came to Santa Maria in 1959 with Hagadone-Scripps organization and stayed with them until he retired in 1983, over 32 years with newspapers. Some of those years were spent with sister papers in Arizona, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Washington State and Oregon. In 1975 he returned to Santa Maria as its publisher/editor.

Walt enjoyed being part of many groups in Santa Maria, i.e. past President and vice-president of Allan Hancock Board of Trustees, past President of Valley Developers, past President S.M. Valley Republicans, former member of S.M. Valley Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Rotary Club, Board of Directors of S.M. Philharmonic Society, Hancock College Foundation, founding member of S.M. Civic Theater. He was affiliated with International Executive Service Corps which sent him on assignments to Ukraine and Nepal. He was proud to be a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Professional Journalist Society.

His grieving family includes Ginny his wife of 64 years. son Bruce (Elyse) of Longview, Wash.,daughter Kay (David) Hiltner of Eugene, Oregon, grandson Wade Johanson and Great Grandson Devin of Sacramento, Ca. He also leaves a brother Kenneth and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request no services will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.
