Charles Roger Wagner, 71, of Santa Maria, California passed away peacefully on October 9, 2017 at Marian Medical Center.
Roger, as he was known to his friends and family, was born in Glendale, California on November 25, 1945 to Charles and Harriett Wagner. He graduated from Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Roger then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in economics before serving as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force for six years. Roger married Marie Lancaster in 1967 and had one son, Charles David Wagner.
In his early career, Roger worked in regional retail management for the Montgomery Ward Corporation where he met Marie A. Comstock. Roger and Marie married in 1980. They were blessed with five children during their 17 year marriage, Michael C. Wagner, Stephen A. Wagner, Jenna M. Wagner, Cara M. Jones, and Charles Joseph Wagner. After four of their five children were born Roger and Marie settled on the Central Coast, where Roger found his calling and began his contracting career. As the owner of Wagner Construction, Roger delighted in hand-crafting custom wooden pieces for his clients. His passion for woodworking was rivaled only by his talent in transforming local businesses, residences, and even places of worship. It was through his business that he met his next love, Alicia Nowicki, to whom Roger was married in 1998.
While Roger enjoyed working with his local customers, his true joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Roger reveled in each of the thousands of slices of pizza the family consumed while gathered together in his great company. He was a devoted, loving, and supportive patriarch.
Roger is survived by his beloved children and former spouses listed above as well as his ten grandchildren, his siblings, Sandy Adamek-Filiatrault, Charlene Devine and Craig Wagner in addition to his son-in-law Shawn Jones, and daughters-in-law, Marisa Wagner, Maya Fuller and Karin Wagner. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Harriett Wagner.
Family and friends are invited to funeral services Friday, October 13th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, on Church Street in Santa Maria. Interment will commence immediately following at Santa Maria Cemetery.
