LeRoyce Tunnell was born in Fullerton, California, on December 3, 1930 to Lloyd and Ruth Riley. As a young child, she moved to Orcutt where her father worked for Union Oil. LeRoyce started school there along with her older brother, Herbert. She would go on to attend Santa Maria High School where she enjoyed playing field hockey and attending Girl's State.
While in high school, she met the love of her life and future husband, William Tunnell. She attended San Jose State College with a physical education major. They were married July 29, 1950. They made their home in Orcutt and proceeded to start a family. Their daughter, Judith, was born and two years later their son, William.
The family built a home in Santa Maria which would be the first of several. LeRoyce became a substitute teacher in the Santa Maria School District. She liked to play cards with friends, especially bridge, and was a member of the Minerva Club. Later in life, she was a proud member of the A-Z Club. With her family, she spent many years enjoying their cabin at Cal Shasta, Lake Nacimiento.
Le and Bill, as they were known to their friends, loved to play tennis and golf at the Santa Maria Country Club. She also loved spending time and golfing at their home in La Quinta. She spent her retirement years vacationing and traveling with friends.
LeRoyce is survived by her husband of 67 years, daughter, son, six grandchildren and two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Lloyd Riley, Jr. and an infant son, Thomas Arthur Tunnell.
