Evelyn Ida Fernandez passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Maria, CA on April 6 2018. Evelyn was born May 26 1927 to Richard and Flossie Borchardt in Modesto, CA, lived and grew up in Salida CA nearby. After marrying Raymond Fernandez, she moved to the Central Coast where she raised her 4 children and worked for Marian Hospital for nearly 30 years.
Evelyn served as an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where she held the position of Auxiliary President many times. In 1987 the Eagles named Evelyn the “Aerie Sweetheart” of the Santa Maria Lodge. Her hobbies included playing Poker, of which she was quite good and watching Wheel of Fortune. Surprisingly she was popping off with puzzle solutions up to a week before her passing. Evelyn is survived by two sisters, Florence Hull and Alice Billings, 3 Children, Dennis (Vicki) Fernandez, Renee Thomas and Frank (Julie) Fernandez, 8 grandchildren (6 spouses),15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene, sisters, Bea and Mildred, her husband, Ray Fernandez, son, Alfred Fernandez and recently great grandson, Ezra Fernandez.
She will be sorely missed by all for her kind, compassionate and witty personality, but most of all for the sense of acceptance she lovingly made you feel just being in her presence.
A memorial barbecue will take place on her birthday, May 26th, 2018 at 1:00 at the Eagles Lodge, 668 S. College Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93454.
