Lornie Estes, Sr.

Lornie, 82, of Santa Maria, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Marian Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.

Lornie began his life on Sept. 23, 1921, in Cotton Gin, Texas, to the parents of Joshua Estes and Ora Thomas-Estes. He attended grade school in Mexia, Texas and married his first wife Novella Rutherford. Out of this union seven children were born. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 16. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and dispatched overseas to serve in such battles as Normandy and Rhineland and in the campaigns in Northern France and Central Europe. He was decorated with four Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars. He retired from VAFB in April of 1978. He married his second wife, Christine Osteen, in the late 60s. From this union three children were born. Lornie and Christine then settled in Santa Maria together in 1969. He began employment with Cal Poly Technical Institute where he retired in 1986.

He was survived by his brother, Thomas; sister, Mary Cyrus; his children, Lornie Estes Jr., Reba Jean, Ora Ann, Robert Earl, Ella Ruth, Ralph Don, Kendell and Shanita all of Texas, Burrelll of Okla., Terri of Ga., Jay, Kendra and Arlana of Santa Maria; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Estes and Ora Thomas Estes; three brothers, Joshua Jr., Alonzo and Thelma Ray; and wife, Christine Estes.

Visitations will be at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, from 3 to 7 p.m. for friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.

Joanna R. Corins

Joanna R. Corins, 74, of Santa Maria, died Dec. 11, 2003, in a local care center.

In honor of her request there will be no services. Cremation was requested with private inurnment to be at a later date.

Joanna was born on Aug. 6, 1929, in Long Beach, Calif., and was brought home to a loving family of six older brothers and sisters who spoiled her. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School and then married the first love of her life and together traveled while he was in the Navy. Together they had three of her four children. In 1968, she moved to the Santa Maria area and raised her youngest daughter. She then met and married John Corins and both enjoyed traveling.

For the last several years she has fought the effects of Alzheimer/s Disease.

She was survived by her children, Jacqueline and Tim Hatfield of Arroyo Grande, Joey and Robey Garcin of Santa Maria, Toni and Mike MacDonald of Red Bluff, Calif., Cade Selvy of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Mary Pridy of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Patrick Bochnak, Cherie Chatham, Robert Silva, Nicole Hunter, Nathan Garcin, Kenidi MacDonald, Joanna Selvy, and Cade Selvy; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband John Corins who died in 1997.

Friends if they so desire can make memorials to the Alzheimer/s Association, 2024 DeLa Vina St., Santa Barbara, CA 93105.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.

Ellsworth C. Harding (Tiny)

Ellsworth C. Harding, 77, of Santa Maria, died Dec. 10, 2003. He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Santa Maria.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He lived a great life spending four years in the Army, he served in World War II and was honorably discharged. He then played the music he loved most, country western, in local halls and bars. He spent a few years in forestry and believed in hard work and good fun. He then worked for Coast Rock for 30 years then retired. He always brought a smile to every person/s face he met and loved to tell great stories of his life experiences. Ellsworth will truly be missed greatly by all his family and friends.

Ellsworth is survived by his wife, (Mickie) Mildred Harding; his children, (Guy) Ellsworth Harding II, Zeana Burdick, Christeen Dunson, Charlene Weekly, Michael Corbus, Vivian Norelli and Wanda Cleveland; grandchildren, Neomi Alvara, Devin Perdue and numerous others; great-grandchildren, Timothy Haney and numerous others. Ellsworth is survived by many other family members.

We love you Grandpa, Papa Bear, we will miss you so much. You will always be a part of us and in our hearts.

At Ellsworth/s request there will not be any services. We also want to thank all of our family and friends for their support.

Arnold W. Van Der Linden

Arnold W. Van der Linden, 89, of Arroyo Grande died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at his home.

There will be a time of visitation on Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. followed by the Vigil service at 7 p.m. at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick/s Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande.

Arnold was born June 19, 1914, in Pleasanton and was a resident of Corbett Canyon for over 85 years. He was a member of St. Patrick/s Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande and the Knights of Columbus Arroyo Grande Council 1375. Arnold was also a member of the San Luis Obispo Antique Car Club and was one of the original participants in the San Luis Obispo Farmer/s Market.

Arnold was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his son, Richard of Arroyo Grande; grandson, Justin and wife, Janet of Arroyo Grande; granddaughter, Courtney of Monterey; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Katelyn; brother-in-law, Frank Kinsella and wife, Eleanor of Arroyo Grande; and sister-in-law, Jean Kruger of Livermore. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Mary; siblings, Curt, Leo Jr., and Anna; and his parents, Leo and Amanda.

William Ellis "Red" Cline

William Ellis "Red" Cline, 85, of Los Alamos, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at the Marian Hospital from a fight against lung cancer.

Inurnment of his ashes will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Los Alamos Cemetery.

Mr. Cline was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Covington, Okla. He grew up in Sistersville, W. Va., where he graduated high school in 1938.

William served with the 147th Artillery in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, as well as being a 50 year member of the Bushmasters 158th Regimental Combat Team. William also received a 50 year certificate with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada.

He was also a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge in Santa Maria. A charter member of the Los Alamos Valley Men/s Club and a member of the Los Alamos Valley Grange #647, as well as the California Pomona Grange of Santa Barbara County.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sharon Mae Faulkner, Billie Louise Cline, and Judith Lynn Palmer; five grandchildren, Sherrie Mae Faulkner, Daniel William Faulkner, John Glen Faulkner all of Arizona, Robert Scott Palmer and Steven Craig Palmer of California; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Mae Faulkner, Tyler Dean Smith, Daniel Alexander Faulkner, and Damian Michael Lee Faulkner all of Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Cline was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years and four of his sisters, Wadena, Sylvia, Maebelle, and Anne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 3160 Geneva St., Los Angeles, CA 90020.
