The Santa Maria Civic Theatre will present Mel Brooks' “Young Frankenstein," directed by Sally Buchanan, beginning Oct. 20.
In the musical, nominated for three Tony Awards and based on the iconic film, grandson of the infamous Victor Von Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”), inherits his family estate in Transylvania.
With the help of Igor (“Eye-gore”) and a lovely lab assistant named Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors.
As he works to bring his monster to life, Frederick is encouraged by Frau Blucher (did I hear horses?). But things really get crazy when his fiancée, Elizabeth Benning, shows up unexpectedly and the monster escapes.
Due to the mature themes of this production, it is strongly suggested that no one under 15 attend.
The show runs Fridays through Sundays from Oct. 20 to Nov. 5. Curtain is at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 1:30 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets at www.smct.org.
