Scraps and moments tell a story. We will create a small scroll timeline using fabric, stitching, and embellishments to represent various experiences and changes in your personal journey.

This is a process-oriented workshop. We will start with a fabric and notions “swap.” An abundance of materials is a source of inspiration and will become our palette. Several fabric collage techniques will be demonstrated — layering scraps, appliqué, integrating lace and found embroidery. We will also provide a station to tea-dye fabric and lace scraps.

The idea is that of a personal journey. We ask students to bring a list of 10 or so “times and people” that have been pivotal to your life. Bring a special photo or two for reference if you’d like. Working with these memories we will compose textile collages using the simplest of hand-sewing techniques.
