SESLOC Federal Credit Union recently donated funds to two Central Coast food banks to help feed children this summer.
The credit union donated $1,000 to the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County and its Picnic in the Park program.
In Santa Barbara County, 84 percent of children — more than 34,000 kids — receive free or reduced-price lunches during the school year, but the school programs don’t operate in the summer.
Every $10 donated to Picnic in the Park provides meals for three children, so the $1,000 donation will feed 300 children over summer break, a SESLOC spokeswoman said.
In San Luis Obispo County, more than 16,000 children are fed reduced-priced school lunches during the school year, and the Food Bank Coalition provides them with breakfast, lunch and snacks during the summer months through its Lovin’ Lunchbox program.
During the month of April, SESLOC members donated a total of $8,879 to Lovin’ Lunchbox at San Luis Obispo County branches, and the credit union matched the first $2,500 raised.
Since 2012, SESLOC’s Feeding Young Bodies and Minds campaign has raised nearly $45,000 in support of the SLO Food Bank Coalition’s children’s programs, the spokeswoman said.
SESLOC Federal Credit Union has more than 44,000 members, 130 employees and branches in Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, Atascadero and Paso Robles.
