Kathleen Choal has been named president and general manager of KSBY-TV, the NBC affiliate in the Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-San Luis Obispo market, by Cordillera Communications.

She is replacing Evan Pappas, who has been appointed president and general manager of KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs, Colo., effective April 1, 2011, a Cordillera spokesman said.

Choal will join KSBY from Cordillera-owned KVOA-TV, an NBC affiliate in Tucson, Ariz., where she was station manager/news director.

She joined KVOA-TV in 2005 as news director and was appointed station manager in 2009. Prior to joining KVOA, she held news management positions with Meredith, Post Newsweek and CBS.

Choal began her career at KDLH-TV in Duluth, Minn., in 1992 and is a graduate of University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

Pappas will join NBC affiliate KOAA-TV to replace David Whitaker, who is retiring as general manager.

Prior to becoming general manager at KSBY, Pappas was general sales manager at Cordillera’s KVOA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tucson, Ariz., which he joined in 2003.
