Her run was good enough for a prep national record.
It was also good enough to earn Jordan Hasay the award for the nation's top prep track and field performance Friday.
The 16-year-old made the U.S. Olympic Trials final with her prep record 4:14.50 in the women's 1,500 meters semi-finals at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus on July 4. Voters on
www.dyestatcal.com chose her run as tops among the 32 nominated performances.
Nine days and some 7,000 miles later, Hasay finished fourth in the 1,500 at the World Junior Championships in Bydgoscz, Poland. That is the highest ever by an American girl in that event there.
Her award capped off a season in which Hasay went unbeaten during the school year, set a state meet record with a 9:52.13 win in the girls 3,200 meters and then repeated as champ in the USATF Junior Nationals 1,500 meters.
Hasay is an Arroyo Grande resident who is about to start her senior year at Mission Prep.
