SMV Packers schedule change

The Santa Maria Valley Packers home game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. has been changed to 2 p.m. at John Osborne Field.

The opponents have been changed as well. The Packers will be hosting the San Luis Obispo Blues.

The Packers will play at Sinsheimer Park against the Blues on Thursday and Friday beginning at 6 p.m. before returning home on Sunday to host the Central City All-stars at 2 p.m.

Kiwanis AllStar Classic Friday night

The 41st North South All-Star Football Classic, sponsored by the Santa Barbara Suburban Kiwanis Club, will be played on Friday evening at Pioneer Valley High School.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

This county-wide game brings together the best graduating senior players from each high school in the county.

Greg Dickinson, the coach of the North All-Stars, is fielding a team of 33 players and Brett Gauld, the coach of the South All-Stars, is fielding a team of 32 players.  

Over the last 40 years the North County has won 18 games and the South County has won 18 with one tie in 1981.

Bombers Girls take on Bombers Boys

The Lompoc Bombers 16U Girls traveling softball team will participate in a unique fund raiser on Sunday, Aug. 10.

In an effort to raise much needed dollars for national qualifying tournaments, the girls will take on the Lompoc Bombers 16U Boys baseball team in a 7-inning softball game on the Lompoc High softball field beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The boys will attempt to hit a fast-pitch softball pitcher after playing a season of hard ball tournaments.

There will be barbecued hamburgers and sausage dogs as well as chips and drinks available at the game.

Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from any member of the Bombers and will also be available the day of the game at the gate. For more information call Tony Vickery at 588-5597.

High school football officials needed

The Northern Channel Coast Football Officials Association (NCCFOA) is looking for interested men and women who would like to officiate football at the high school level this coming 2008 season.

The NCCFOA covers Youth, Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity football games from Santa Ynez to Paso Robles.

The first meeting will be held at Arroyo Grande High School in the Forum Classroom on Tuesday, August 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The next two meetings will be on Tuesdays August 12 and 19.

SM Softball board election coming up

Santa Maria Girls Softball, Inc. will be holding board elections for the 2009 season on Monday, August 11 at the Minami Center Assembly room on W. Enos at 7:30 p.m. There are many opportunities for adults who want to come out to help the local softball teams and league.

Ron Sharp Memorial Junior Golf Tourney

The annual Ron Sharp Memorial Junior Golf Championship will be held on Friday, August 1, at the Rancho Maria Golf Club.

The tournament is open to boys and girls, ages 17 and younger, and will be played in five seperate age divisions.

The entry fee is $15 and includes green fees, range balls, lunch, trophies and prizes for everyone.

Tee times begin at 11 a.m.
