Humane Society offers low-lost microchipping

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society will offer a low-lost microchipping clinic from 10 am. to noon Saturday, July 26.

Microchips are administered on a first-come, first-served basis at the monthly event, and both cats and dogs are welcome.

The society estimates that more than 1 million pets wind up in animal shelters every year, and are euthanized because they are never reunited with their owners, according to a July 18 press release from the society. This could be minimized if more pet owners were able to microchip their pets.

The fee is $32 per microchip, per pet. For information, call the society at 349-3435 or visit the facility at 751 Black Road in Santa Maria, or visit www.smvhs.org.
